Phat Platters proves to be another of the few restaurant options inspired by the Halal carts of New York City. They have their signature “White” and “Hot” sauces that are also available for sale in both 8 oz and 12 oz bottles. Be sure to ask for a couple of the white or red sauce containers to accompany your delivery. This place is pumping out the Phat Platters continuously during the lunch and dinner hours.
Aside from their Phat Platters, they offer Schwarma Panini, Gyro, burgers, Phat Sandwiches, Salads and Wings.
Since they serve only Halal food – you can try “beef bacon” to accompany your order.
The mixed platter with extra protein is my go-to dish which requires me to grab a large stack of napkins to continually wipe the perspiration off my face.
Parking: There is a small lot on the side of the building, or you can park in front of the building on Frederick Street. There are also some metered spots and the train station lot has free evening and weekend parking.

Tucked away from the main roads of Waldwick, NJ, the Whistle Stop is a bustling place for locals and commuters to grab a quick bite or enjoy some ice cream. This is a quintessential mom and pop place owned by locals Tami and Neil Moses with a breakfast, lunch, hot grill, ice cream and to-go comfort food dinners. During the warmer months, the picnic tables and an outside play areas can be overrun with kids and adults enjoying burgers, sandwiches and ice cream.
Weekly homemade soup specials can include: Chicken Noodle, “Famous” Broccoli Cheddar, Corn Chowder, Cream of Spinach or Split Pea with Ham/Bacon. Be sure to try their salads and chili’s too!
Dinner Specials include soup or salad and can be purchased individually or by the 1/2 tray. These rotate on a weekly basis and can be chicken, beef, pasta dishes..
This restaurant is rooted in Waldwick with a couple of their items created in honor of hometown heros whose foundations will receive a portion of the sales. Get the “Daggo” in honor of SSGT. Joseph D’Augustine which is a Bacon, Egg and American Cheese on a hero roll. Or try the “#38” to honor Ptl. Christopher M. Goodell which is a Vanilla ice cream chocolate crunchies “dirt” with Whipped cream topped with red, white and blue sprinkles.
Ice Cream!
They proudly serve Nelson’s Dutch Farms Ice Cream “Nix Besser / None Better” which is imported from the Pennsylvania Dutch and its fresh!
This ShopRite is the new flagship store which is located a few yards away from Stop and Shop. My goal for this review is to capture the entirety of the store and it’s the ShopRite website in this review to help you better plan your trip.
The Food Court
You enter into a food court with a cafe, florist, Mediterranean bar (8.49/ lb) I wish they had a standard salad bar – but they don’t. Their hot grill has breakfast sandwiches as well as burgers, cheesesteaks and chicken hot sandwiches at reasonable prices.
The Chef Prepared foods are also good for a quick grab-and-go. The deli offers standard fare but a nice display with friendly staff. To save you a lot of time, there is a nice section of precut deli selections if you are to particular in your deli order. There’s a cheese nook past the deli which looks to have every type of cheese you can imagine (including local selections). Grab some good gouda!
Cheese Monger
The produce displays the standard produce selections. There is a “certified organic” island that is clearly marked – if that’s your thing.

Delectable Cakes
Also note, for young shoppers, there is a display at the front corner of the produce section (see above “Free Food” photo) with free healthy fruits for kids to take while you shop. So take some wipes and napkins with you to help keep the little fingers clean.
The bakery is very well appointed with breads, cookies and cakes. You will wonder on how the artfully decorated cakes sport price tags under $10. This will be you go-to place for desserts.
Seafood and Butcher
The seafood department doubles as a food truck since it sells freshly made sushi, ramen bowls and Deopbap (Poke) bowls.

Aged Meats
Ramen, Sushi and Poke / Bibimbap / Deombap
The butcher has fresh cut meat on display and old meat on display (aged beef) which is typically only found at high end steak houses.
Remainder of Store
The grocer aisles are cavernous – this is not a store you run in and run out of for a few items. What I did find nice was that the refrigerated sections all had doors on the cases which made the section warmer than what you would find in other stores.
Please consider their Wholesome Pantry offerings which claim to be without artificial flavors, colorings, and unnatural preservatives. There are regular Wholesome Pantry and organic Wholesome Pantry options.
The registers are in abundance with about 20 of them with the express lanes on the left and the “self check-outs” on the right.
You will see that there aren’t any liquor stores attached to this ShopRite. But right around the corner, you will find Wine & Spirit World.
Florist: Get some fresh flowers for a friend, yourself or you sweetie at the florist located by the store entrance.

Dieticians Nook: On the way to the registers, you will pass the Dietitians Nook. This contains a little display conveniently stocked with a recipe card and ingredients to make a healthy meal. I like this idea as it reminds me of those boxed delivery services like Blue Apron. So, stop by and give it a try.
Shop from Home: Go to the ShopRite website and Shop from Home
Shop from Recipes: On the ShopRite web site you can find the Recipes Section which provides recipes and ingredients where you can add the ingredients right to your shopping cart – Although currently this location does not offer Shop at Home, you will be able to print out your shopping list.

Ample parking is found in the rear of the building or on the street.
Scott’s Review:
Jersey Farmer’s Market has been around for years and has grown in a quality market. When you enter the store, a giant Pineapple Welcome Banner greets you. Then you will notice that there is an amazing florist in their section the left. Further along their left wall, you will find the seafood counter is fully stocked with fresh fish and seafood.
Right after the seafood counter is a fully stocked spice section, bread and then dried fruits and nuts. But this market is known for their consistent quality with their fresh fruits and vegetables. Unlike other farmers markets, your produce should keep for a while before it spoils.
I almost left out the best part! Sushi! This market has their in-house sushi take-out window between the florist and seafood counter. The previous sushi chef retired and now the new chef is making a name for himself. Be sure to grab a menu to call in your order or place your order at the beginning of your shopping trip.
After you check-out, and if you didn’t pick up any sushi, you can visit Juicy Platters located in the same building as the market. Try (a little bit) of their “Spicy AF” hot sauce at Juicy Platters where they whip up rice, salad or gyro platters at reasonable prices.
To ensure order accuracy please place your first and last name in the subject line. All items should be listed in the body of the email and your phone number.
When sending your grocery list please ensure it is finalized as we can no longer accept add-ons.”

Note 3: Don’t forget that curb side pickup is available for for adult beverages and libations.
Scott’s Review:
Note: Due to the COVID-19 outbreak – I exclusively use Wolfsons’ curbside pick-up for all my grocery shopping. I have found that Instacart, Peapod and Shoprite deliveries and pick-ups are no longer available. My last two orders through Instacart were cancelled after waiting days for completion. I highly recommend Wolfson’s Market for their service and their quality. And don’t forget beer, wine and liquor which can help with everyone’s quarantine experience.
Family owned Wolfson’s Market has just about reached landmark status and continues to operate with helpful and happy employees. Wolfson’s is more than just a convenient store and more of a market. Unlike the mega-supermarkets that can take you 15 minutes to pick up a gallon of milk, this enclave has everything you need seemingly within an arms reach, at reasonable prices. Their sign listing sums up what they’re about “Liquor, Wine, Beer, Grocery, Deli, Meats” But they should add catering as well.
Outside:
The address is listed as 480 Boonton Turnpike – but you can enter from either of the side streets as well. The parking lot is a little tricky, but the spaces are clearly marked. Near the door is the locked cage for propane tank swaps.
Inside:
You enter by passing through a small alcove that might house firewood, charcoal and large 5 gallon water cooler bottles right near the two registers where they sell cigarettes and lottery tickets. To the right, is the refrigerated dairy case. The deli counter is in the rear of the store.

In the rear-left of the store is the liquor section and front-left is a small produce section. They have many kitchen gadgets above the produce section.
There are a couple of aisles of spices, & dry goods, groceries and they will most likely have what you need.

The deli counter has prepared salads, warm pre-made food and is staffed by generally smiley people. They really pride themselves on their catering and create artistic, flavorful dishes and platters for your party or events.

Grab this bread on the way out if you are heading to dinner!
Be sure to grab a warm loaf of the oil or garlic bread near the check-out before leaving!
